The first weekend of the new year is here. A big goal of mine for the website this year is to have a loose calendar of events or at least a weekend write-up of the happenings downtown musically and artistically.
I have to point out some BIG events that need your support so cool stuff continues to happen in Frederick. The people putting on these next two events are dear friends AND huge forces in Frederick music/art; they deserve good sized crowds and without a big turnout we might hit another massive dry spell.
First off, there will be a screening of Punk The Capital, an amazing documentary on the DC Punk scene from 1976 to 1983 on Friday at Area 31 at 8 PM (click here for more details or see the mini calendar below). Influential and memorable bands such as The Slickee Boys, Half Japanese and Bad Brains are subjects in the film. I caught a screening of the doc in Silver Spring in November and was amazed by filmmakers James Schneider and Paul Bishow’s efforts in creating such an exciting and fascinating display of the DC music scene. Still not convinced you’ll be there? Well THINK AGAIN because you never know what notable Frederick-area musicians who appeared in the film will show up to the screening…
The second event is one I couldn’t be more happy for… A HOUSE SHOW (Saturday at 8 PM – click here for more details or see the mini calendar below). Yes, it seems like only yesterday that a good amount of concerts in Frederick were at places like The Squat (RIP) or Slayground (RIP), but that was way back in 2017! That was the last time I was at a house show in Frederick and it’s absolutely astonishing. Knight Castle is hosting a killer lineup of bands that can’t be missed. And even cooler, it’s a benefit show for Washington Literary Center. See the description of the bands from the facebook event page below.
