It’s A Wonderful Life/It’s A Wonderful Walk & Mayne’s Tree Farm

On Saturday I visited Mayne’s Tree Farm: a family tradition for numerous years now… I also attended the showing of “It’s A Wonderful Life” at Weinberg Center for the Arts.

“It’s A Wonderful Life” (hosted by Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs) @ Weinberg Center for the Arts

The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs puts on this free showing of the classic movie. Both the 3 PM and 7 PM showings were sold out, though the tickets are free (donations encouraged). The Weinberg Center is a wonderful environment to see a movie. I saw The Beatles’ “A Hard Days Night” at the Weinberg when I was younger and so many fans of the band and movie made the film screening a more enjoyable experience. The same could be applied to “It’s A Wonderful Life”. It was my first time seeing the film and I was floored at the impact that the message of the film still has today.
After the screening, a large crowd gathered for the second annual “It’s A Wonderful Walk” hosted by WTOP Film Critic Jason Fraley who came up with the idea. The crowd walked down Patrick & Market Street shouting holiday cheer to the local businesses – just like George Bailey in the movie’s finale. It was such a fun overall experience.

Mayne’s Tree Farm

My family has been going to Mayne’s every year now for maybe 7 or 8 years. It’s my Mom, Dad, Brother, Grandma/Grandpa and I in the group. We each get a tree and then put it in the back of my Grandpa’s truck. We found an awesome tree yet again, but… this year it was an absolute mess getting out of the farm. Total gridlock and it took around an hour to finally pay and leave. The spot has become quite popular and it seems the farm needs to adapt to its new crowd. We’ve tried other farms but we keep coming back to Mayne’s for the wide selection.
