Flo Petite – Performing this time as a two piece, there is open space in their expansive guitar melodies and jazzy beats, making them a perfect alternative mashup. Seeing them in this tiny setting meant they calmed their sound a bit and it turns out dynamically great. A lot of bands can struggle to play to certain spaces and venues, but Flo Petite thrives. Subtle parts are more tender and fragile with honesty and integrity. Excellent guitar finger picking and finger strumming style while the drumming is intricate and detailed.
The Meer – Psychedelic rock with one note hammer ons; Long Thurston Moore-like Jams. They’re adaptive and brilliantly cover light and dark moods perfectly. Throwing Muses vibes and power chord driven verses with simple atmospheric solos. They can even get a little punky like L7. The band clearly has a wide influence of genres and provides a different experience every show. This time it was a dreamy vibe where as last time it was dystopian and seemingly darker.
Loi Loi (DC) – Dancey glam pop dominated by keyboards and drum and bass backing tracks. Powerful vocals and a landscape of 80s synth sounds from this two piece. Repetitive and soulful lyric hooks mesh with a funk fusion mix. The group started in Spain and is now based in DC. Trumpet and other horns plus thumping drum machine rhythms and lyrics in Spanish provide an eclectic mix that is truly something different.
